Apple Core Baby Jane Quilt

apple core 3

I just completed my first apple core quilt! It’s been on my quilting bucket list for awhile now.  I wanted to make one in order to sharpen my skills in piecing curves, pin wheeling seams and attaching bias cut binding.  I chose to make this quilt using Cosmo Cricket’s Baby Jane line which is available at the Fat Quarter Shop.  I love the vintage feel of the fabric coupled with the apple core die which is so traditional.  They are just the perfect combination.

I created a step by step tutorial, sharing how to make this quilt using the Sizzix Apple Core die and you can find that tutorial on the Sizzix blog today.

  1. Your quilt is just beautiful and looks so lovely on that red door!

  2. All your shots were perfect! That is totally adorable and you rocked the whole thing. The binding could not have been easy! You picked perfect fabric for this old block.

  3. So cheerful and pretty! I love the shot on the wagon. The fabrics in this line are shown to such good advantage in this quilt and the wavy edge as well as the color of the binding provide a special finish. Your sewing skills really shine here, Amy.

  13. Wow, what fancy piecework! Your photos and your quilt are beautiful, Amy. Congrats on this finish!

  14. Beautiful quilt.
I’ve also done an apple core quilt…..totally hand pieced! I used a stamp for the shapes and cut them all out individually from hand dyed fabric then sewed them together (over a long period of time) into a lap quilt for my mom, she now has dementia and is in residential care but still has her quilt.
It was my first attempt at bias curved binding and although it took ages I’m glad I gave myself the challenge, it turned out well.
