Tell Me A Story Holiday Update

Tell Me A Story Holiday by Amy Friend

As promised, I am sharing some of my Tell Me A Story holiday blocks with you!  I hope you are busily making your own so that you can enter to win one of four really great prizes.  You can read all the details about the sewalong in my earlier post.

Here’s my story for this block.  This child is sliding down a New England hill but his speed is increasing and he can’t stop!  And smack, he hits an evergreen tree.  This is an autobiographical story based on my second grade self, the day before school pictures.

Frosty is trying to remain cheerful as he shovels but those snowflakes keep coming!  Always…more…snow…  If you live in a snowy area like I do, you know this feeling!

They look so sweet singing their Christmas carols but Jane, on the left, is trying to outshine her younger sister Betty by singing just a little bit louder.  Ahh…sibling rivalry.

Circuitry Quilt

Selvages, Amy Friend

For months now, I have been telling people to save their selvages because I had a pattern coming up that I was excited about.  I would like to share that project with you today!  I have always been drawn to selvages and even more so once companies started adding cute touches to them in recent years!

I designed Circuitry to use half low volume selvages (since those fabrics have been so hot lately resulting in tons of low volume selvages!) and half rainbow colors grouped into a sort of spinning wheel pattern. I just love the result and hope you do too!  I feel like it’s a really fun and modern take on the selvage quilt and it’s an easy and fun sew.

Circuitry Quilt by Amy FriendI had to throw in this detail shot because it’s one of my favorites. I took it on an old screen door with a Salada Tea push bar. I am a huge hot tea/ice tea fan so this picture makes me smile.

You can find this project in my new book, Intentional Piecing.  Thanks for visiting!

Triangle Play

Triangles WIP by Amy Friend

Behind the scenes, I have been working on a new pattern that I drew up a number of months ago now. It’s been nagging at me to give it some attention so I decided to start it. I am hoping that my color palette will also help usher in the spring but somehow I doubt it.  As I was working on these yesterday, it was snowing yet again, making this Boston’s snowiest year on record. Hooray?

This pattern is paper pieced and in my design book I have it dubbed “Triangle Play.”  I am not sure what its ultimate name will be but that’s its working title!  I am really enjoying sewing with these soothing shades of peach and melon and a couple of shades of grey that deviate from my usual go to greys.  I have about a dozen blocks sewn but have quite a few more to go before I can share a quilt top here.  If you want to follow my progress, I have been sharing some pictures on Instagram.

I have been asked if I will offer this pattern for sale.  Yes, I will.  I will work on writing it up as soon as the quilt is finished.  Thank you for your interest!
