The Start of a Sampler

I was inspired to start a sampler quilt after seeing so many pretty blocks pop up in the Summer Sampler Series Quilt Along on Flickr and so soon after purchasing a copy of 5,500 Quilt Block Designs. There are so many blocks in the book that I would like to try out. A sampler seemed the perfect solution.

This block is a variation of the Garden Path block illustrated on page 24, #203. It called for a 4 patch center and instead, I fussy cut a single square.

I used Ruby Star Rising Viewfinder in Blue for the center, with Mustard Kona Cotton, Linen Texture in Aqua and Cream Lines from Word Play.

My second block is found on page 19, #127 and is called Prairie Queen True Blue.

This red solid is a Cross Weave in Scarlet. I love the color and it works really well with the Ruby Star Rising but boy does it fray!

I’m looking forward to choosing my next blocks!

I need to add that the second block was pieced with Aurifil thread since my red thread sample worked well colorwise. I have to say that I honestly feel like my seams are flatter as a result. I also sewed right to the end of the bobbin without any mess at the tail end of the bobbin. My Aurifil giveway is on till Monday, the post below this one.
