On Angels’ Wings

As soon as I start Christmas crafting, I get a bit mixed media.  While I may sew for the rest of the year, I break out the paint and hot glue about this time every year.
As soon as I saw Tim Holtz ‘Layered Angel Wings die, I knew I had to make clothespin angels. I have such a fondness for peg dolls and clothespin dolls. I like their homespun charm for Christmas.  I wanted to keep the ornaments simple yet interesting with lots of texture.

I walked up and down the aisles of the craft store and picked up sheets of vellum, corrugated white card stock  text papers, white on white paper, and white glitter paper.  I also discovered wedding rings in the wedding favor supply section which make perfect halos.  I need wooden clothespins (called doll pegs in the craft store), white eyelet lace, white and gold ink pads, white and gold glitter, black acrylic paint, white glue, hot glue, and Sizzix embossing folders.
I cut many sets of wings and then embossed some of them using the white and gold inks.  I added fine white glitter to others.  Some I rubbed around the edges with the gold ink pad.  Then I glued the sets of layers together, mixing the different papers to give each angel a personality.
I painted just the suggestion of a face on each clothespin with acrylic paint.  In my case, I needed to shorten the eyelet lace because I wanted the “feet” to show. I did that with a 1/4″ seam at the top and then gathered the lace and glued it at the angels’ “shoulders.”  I then attached the wings to the back of each angel with hot glue.  I also used hot glue for the halos.  Each angel is hung with a metallic gold thread.

Pretty soon you will have a whole choir of angels for your tree!

I love the way each is unique.  Enjoy!
