Using your template, for each potholder, cut two from fabric, one from Insul-Bright, and one from Fleece Fusible. Cut the twill tape hanger to 5″.
Adhere the HeatNBond Lite Fusible to the back of the fabric you have chosen for your letters. You can cut them using a Sizzix die, as was done here, or enlarge a font in your word processing program to approximately 2″ and use it as your template. Create your words, looking to Conversation Hearts for inspiration of course (and nibbling a few along the way). Use your iron to adhere the words to the potholder front. Then apply the Fleece Fusible to the wrong side of the potholder front. Using your free motion quilting foot, stitch around the outside edges of each letter.
Use SprayNBond to create your “quilt sandwich” and keep your layers from shifting while you bind. First, lay out your backing fabric. Spray and place your Insul Brite on top. Spray again and top with your potholder front.
Baste your hanger in place on the upper left side of potholder (on the back). Cut enough bias cut binding to bind your heart. It’s important to cut your binding on the bias in order to manage the curves. Machine stitch the binding to the front of your potholders and hand stitch in the back.
Go on and start a batch of Valentine’s Day treats!
