I’ve continued to work on my paper pieced garden quilt. Don’t think that I just whipped this block up. I had it drawn out before the Pussy Willows! I wanted to include a nod to the winter garden in my layout. When I think of my garden in winter, I think of Cardinals because they are the only bit of color in the landscape.
I wish I could tell you the name of the fabric that I used for the background of this block because I just love it. I purchased it nearly two years ago at my LQS and the selvage isn’t complete. It’s a little greener than it photographed and I love it in this block!
I used another Bonnie and Camille print for the cardinal’s body, and grunge by BasicGrey for the black face and orange beak. The tree branch is Les Amis by Patty Sloniger – Faux Bois in White.
This brings me to ten blocks in my garden series! I am looking forward to summer flowers and fall leaves for the remaining 6 blocks.
The Cardinal block, as well as the other blocks in my series, is available in my Etsy shop and my Craftsy shop.
