Pussy Willows in the Spring

I’m fond of pussy willows. I think it might be because my mom has always loved them.  Also, pussy willows are tied with snowdrops as the first sign of spring here in New England so they bring with them hope after a long winter!

While waiting impatiently for spring to arrive, I decided to create this ode to Pussy Willows. I used Teal Shaded Cotton for my background fabric, Quilters Linen in Chocolate for the stems and a tiny dot from Bonnie and Camille for the catkins.

So, nearly 10 months later, I am finally adding a new block to my series of paper pieced gardening patterns.  My hope is to create blocks for 7 more plants that seem to best symbolize the seasons as we move through the spring into summer and then fall to round out my collection.  Then, I will make my gardening quilt!

Pussy Willows is available in my Etsy shop and my Craftsy shop.

Edited to add:  Someone has already suggested that she’d like to use this block as her 13th block in the Forest Quilt Along. I hadn’t even thought about that.  If anyone buys it and hopes to use it for that, send me a note and I will enlarge the pattern to 12″ for you and send you the file within the next day or so.
