Straw Hat Paper Pieced Pattern

I’m plugging along at my garden quilt series!  I just finished up a straw hat block. It was an idea I had earlier but had forgotten so I am grateful to my Mom who suggested it.  Every gardener needs a straw hat to fend off the sun while weeding right?

I wish I had one this pretty.  I used a sweet yellow lace patterned fabric, Urban Cowgirl for Moda, for the hat.  The fabric was purchased at Fresh Squeezed Fabrics but I don’t think it is in stock any longer.  The ribbon on the hat is made from two shades of Wickerweave by Andover Fabrics.  I used the red for the main ribbon and the pink for the backside of the ribbon where the ribbon twists on the far left side of the block.  The background fabric is a Marmalade print from the Fat Quarter Shop.

If you are sewing along with me, the Straw Hat pattern is now listed in my Etsy shop and Craftsy shop.  This pattern is pretty easy to put together. I think it would be a reasonable pattern for someone new to paper piecing to tackle.  There are no Y seams or curved piecing involved.

I think that this brings me up to 11 blocks, 5 more to go. I have ideas for a couple more that I am eager to get started on too!
