Birdhouse Paper Pieced Pattern

I finally found a moment to return to my garden quilt, a long term paper piecing project of mine.  I decided that every garden needed a birdhouse. I know that I have several in my yard, mostly handmade and I love them!  I especially love the little house that hangs in a lilac bush right outside my sewing room window. I often hear those birds singing while I sew.

Fabrics used:  sky is a DS Quilts print, trunk and birdhouse opening are BasicGrey Sweet Serenade (not yet released), birdhouse is made of Wickerweave yellow texture by Andover Fabrics, Sundrop Shaded Cotton by Riley Blake and Joel Dewberry Vintage Yellow wood grain.

This block brings me to 12 completed original designs.  My goal remains 16 blocks which means that I have 4 more to go. I have a few ideas percolating and I hope to get to them soon. I’d love to finish this quilt over the summer.  I’m pleased with the way I have been able to keep all of the blocks cohesive with my fabric choices while working from my stash as I go.  I didn’t plan my colors from the beginning but rather let the first few blocks lead me.  Now I test new fabrics against the blocks that I have already made before I make a new block.

This new pattern, as well as all of the others, are available in my Etsy shop as well as my Craftsy shop.  All are immediate downloads.

I hope to spend some time in my actual garden tomorrow.  The weeds are getting out of hand!
