I was recently contacted by someone looking for a custom sea turtle paper pieced pattern.
I think that many people will choose to sew this pattern using batiks and they will suit it perfectly. Staying true to my own style, I wanted to sew the sample using more modern fabrics. I asked Peg at Sew Fresh if she had any suggestions for a “green hexagonish” print for the shell and something swirly for the sea and she came back to me with a list of suggestions. Among them were the two prints I used here. The sea is Submarines and Seaweed in Aqua from Salt Water by Tula Pink. It hides the seams really well. The shell is aptly named Tortoise Shell in Seaweed also from Tula Pink’s Salt Water line. The rest of the sea turtle is made with BasicGrey’s Grunge in Juniper from Marmalade Fabrics.
The pattern is now in my Etsy shop and Craftsy shop if you too are a Sea Turtle fan.
