Zakka Along 2.0 Yum Yum Apple Bib

The Zakka Along 2.0 is several weeks into the sew along and I am finally fitting in one of the projects!  I happen to need a little gift for a baby girl soon and thought that the Yum Yum Apple Bib in Ayumi’s book, Patchwork Please would be perfect.

This is actually my second attempt.  In my first attempt, I chose a print featuring apples that was too busy for the center band and the appliqued seeds didn’t show up.  Make sure you choose fabrics that are very similar in color and value when you choose your prints so you don’t end up with a redo!

The pattern calls for 1″ bias tape but doesn’t say how it should be folded. I found that bit a little unclear.  On my first bib, I used some 1/2″ double fold bias which worked out ok but it seemed really stiff and heavy.  I decided to add some batting which the pattern does not call for.  Therefore, I had a little extra bulk, but I found that cutting a 1 1/4″ strip of fabric along the bias and then ironing under 1/4″ on each long end and then folding it in half and pressing worked well for me.

I hope you are having fun with this sew along. I will be back Sept. 9th with my stop on the sew along, the Vintage Pencil Case!
