I’m happy to finally be able to share this quilt with you. It was made last fall and is called Melon Ice. It appears in the May 2014 issue of American Quilter Magazine. I made the quilt out of beautiful Art Gallery Fabrics solids in Mystic Grey, Apricot Crepe, Coral Reef and Snow. I have been really loving these melon like shades of orange recently. I’ve also had fun playing with oversized blocks in recent months as you can see in my Hayloft Door Quilt and my BFF Chain Quilt. They were all made at about the same time. Then, I switched over to tiny 7″ blocks!
These blocks are paper pieced and supersized measuring 18″ finished. The completed quilt measures 72″ square.
I quilted with off center concentric circles. Yes, each row of quilting did have threads that needed to be buried but I think it was worth it because I like the look!
I would like to explore this pattern again, maybe using smaller blocks and going scrappy. I think it has the potential to be used in many different ways. I hope you have fun with it and will share your finished quilts with me!
