I am so excited to officially announce my Aurifil Designer Collection of 12 colors of 50 weight thread to coordinate with my Improv fabric collection.
This box is full of colors that I use frequently and in my favorite, most versatile weight. 50 weight Aurifil is nice and thin and therefore great for paper piecing, which is my favorite technique. The thread does not add bulk to the seams but is strong enough to handle having the paper foundation torn away. I also use 50 weight for quilting quite frequently because I typically like my quilting to take a secondary role and my piecing to be the first thing that you see.
I thought I would show some close ups of the colors of thread along with the fabrics in the collection so you can see how they coordinate. I used all these threads when sewing the samples for my quilt market booth and was quite pleased with the match! I always have these four shades of gray thread on hand from light to medium to charcoal, as well as a subtle variegated grey. They are such useful basics, especially for modern quilters.
I love this chartreuse color too and particularly like it in combination with gray.
The off white, peach and light cinnamon/gold threads work well with the warmer colors in the collection.
There are actually two shades of peach thread in the collection that can be used with the range of peaches/salmons in Improv.
And last, but not least, there is a beautiful shade of rose and a deeper rose. These threads are a near perfect match! I think that the variegated gray would work well with that top print too.
This thread collection is available for orders now. Ask your quilt shop to place an order! It takes the threads awhile to travel from Italy but if ordered now, they should arrive by the time Improv ships later this month!
