How would you like to make this pillow? I am sharing the free foundation pattern on the Aurifil blog today! I designed this pillow to show off my Improv fabric collection, particularly, the gradient that is formed using the four prints in various shades of gray. I love gradients and it can be tricky to find fabrics to make a successful gradient so I wanted to do that in my collection!
This project was a fun opportunity to use 6 shades of Aurifil from my Designer Collection between the piecing and the quilting.
It’s so awesome to have a group of threads all ready to go that coordinate with the collection so nicely.
I couldn’t help but notice how nice the Garnet Pillow works with my Caged Quilt so I decided to photograph them together. If you make the pillow and want to keep going, you can find the Caged pattern in my shop in pdf form and you can ask for the printed pattern at your local quilt shop.
I mocked the pillow design up in EQ7 using the citron green shades and I like it this way too. I suppose the name “Garnet” no longer works as well for this colorway though…we might have to try an alternate gem name. The pillow sewn in these fabrics would coordinate nicely with my Free Tranquil Quilt pattern.
You can find that tutorial here.
If you make a Garnet Pillow, I’d love it if you would share it on social media with the hashtage #garnetpillow and tag me @duringquiettime so I don’t miss it!
