One of the perks of a Modern Quilt Guild membership, is the Modern Monthly, a publication that provides members with free quilt patterns designed just for them.
The latest issue was emailed to members this morning and includes this quilt, Radiance, that I designed. I arrived at this pattern by playing with the idea of irregularly shaped spikes that take full advantage of the paper piecing, which gives you the pointiest points! I won’t lie, the piecing took a long time! But I do love the way the spikes radiate into the background just like sun-rays. I staggered the columns to mix up the gridwork a little bit and changed the colors in one column to add some asymmetry to the overall design.
The fabric for this project was provided by Windham. And Heather Black did the quilting for me. I asked her to keep it simple and modern so that the eye is focused on all those points!
