A Daisy Chain Variation

I finished this quilt up right before I went to QuiltCon in February. It appears in my book, Petal + Stem, as an alternate layout for Daisy Chain. As a reminder, this is Daisy Chain:

I had a hard time choosing which version of each quilt to sew for the book, and which to show as an alternative. I knew that I was going to have to sew this alternate version eventually!

I substituted the Daisy block for the Sunflower block, and the stem with a leaf for a stem with thorns. But the quilt top layout remains the same–this is the magic of my book! The blocks are interchangeable within the layout and you have so many options.

I felt no obligation to make my sunflowers yellow or attach the proper type of stem to them. I just thought that this looked really cool and I was very eager to work with these late summer colored solids from Art Gallery Fabrics. And that backing fabric was the perfect match!

I quilted both quilts the same way, with a 1/2″ diagonal grid using Aurifil 50 weight thread. I love the texture.

I hope you are enjoying seeing all my floral creations! This is what I have been busy with of late. Pretty soon, we are going to have to return to real time sewing.
