Mod Blooms Variation

Today, I wanted to share a variation on my Wish quilt from my book Petal + Stem. I really wanted this book to allow you to mix and match your blocks and quilt top layouts. The quilt pictured above, uses the Wish quilt layout but the Mod Blooms flower head.

To refresh your memory, this is the Wish quilt. You can see that the layout is the same, I just switched out the flower block for a different one! Rather than seeds blowing into the sky, I used deconstructed Mod Bloom blocks.

Here’s a quick shot of the whole quilt taken this morning before it literally blew off the side of my barn. It’s gusty out there so this was the best that I could do! You can see that the deconstructed flower heads give the same effect as the dandelion blocks.

This is a great block to make scrappy. It is so fun to select scraps for each petal.

Here’s a softer version that I worked up as a sample for my QuiltCon class. This block makes for a great workshop, that I am calling Piece An Alt Grid Garden. I am teaching it again in just over a week on March 14, 2020 at the Coastal Quilter’s Guild in Maine. There are a few openings in the workshop. My book is available in my Etsy shop and shipping same day! You can also order on Amazon or the Book Depository online. They are both out of stock at the moment but have orders on the way. You can also ask your local book store or quilt shop to place an order.
