Seedling Quilt

I really enjoyed making this quilt over the past few weeks. I used several blocks from my book, Petal + Stem: the grass, pot, butterfly, and snail. I also used my free Seedling block and new Frog block. The layout is not one of the patterns found in the book. I just designed it just for these blocks in EQ8. The completed quilt measures 48″ x 60.” I used an alternate grid layout with staggered blocks and incorporated negative space. I hope it gives you some ideas about how to use my book and the patterns within it!

Here’s a little close up of the snail since she was covered with grass in the shot of the complete quilt.

I can’t leave the frog out, so here he is. I decided to quilt with a 1″ diagonal grid using a green Aurifil 50 weight thread, I could have used gray but I thought that green would be a little more fun and it also picks up on the green crosshatch in the background fabric, which is the Screen print from my Improv fabric collection. Down in the corner, you can see a bit of the backing. I kept with the grid and plant theme and used Carolyn Friedlander’s Botanics for the backing and one of her crosshatch prints in orange for the binding.

This was completed from my stash and that feels great too!
