I am frequently asked which of my paper pieced block patterns are best for beginners. Here’s my answer! Please remember that they do not all contain basic paper piecing instructions but you can watch my YouTube video on Beginner Paper Piecing to help you get started. These blocks are inexpensive PDF single block downloads and are achievable for the beginner.

One: The Storybook Shelf pattern is easy plus it is so fun to customize! Who doesn’t enjoy a little fussy cutting? Find an accompanying YouTube video here. This pattern also comes in multiples sizes. BUY IT HERE
Two: The Mystical Eye block creates a bold design. You could certainly repeat this one to complete an entire quilt top. Do you have lots of scraps around? I think it could be the perfect scrap buster. BUY IT HERE
Three: This block may be seasonal but it’s a good introductory block, and comes in three sizes. Tip–it can be easiest to paper piece smaller blocks first. BUY IT HERE
Four: This is one of my earliest patterns but it’s great for a beginner because it’s created with nice simple lines. It’s a classic. BUY IT HERE
Five: This sewing machine block was designed for a workshop I planned to teach my guild paper piecing. I kept the lines pretty simple, and there is room for personalizing the block too. BUY IT HERE
I hope this post helps you identify a good block for you to try to advance your paper piecing skills!
