I am so excited to be able to share this free Field + Flutter layout with you! It’s been a work in progress for awhile but because it uses blocks from the recently released Spring Fling Bouquet, I had to hold off on sharing it in its entirety! Also, I ran out of thread while quilting so I truly only finished it just now.

This quilt uses an alternate grid layout with negative space to create a fun and unusual quilt top with a lot of appeal and fancy. The main pieced design creates an inner border of flowers interspersed with grass, a snail and a frog. Pink flowers are used as corner blocks. The fluttering insects and butterflies are in the center. Then there are ants crawling around the outer border! The quilt has no real upside since it still works as you turn the quilt. The blocks are pieced with a scrappy low volume background and the negative space is comprised of 6″ squares and 4 patches of low volume fabrics.

This quilt finishes at 60″ square. I quilted it with a 1″ diagonal grid using a 40 weight Aurifil thread in Chalk.
The free layout can be downloaded here. The block patterns are not included and must be purchased separately from my shop and/or from Petal + Stem. I hope that some of those who joined the Petal + Stem block swap might use their blocks from the swap in this layout!
