I just completed one of two quilts that I plan to make with virtually the same block design. It’s designed using my improv paper piecing method. If you’d like to know more about it, you can read more in my book, Improv Paper Piecing.

I choose two highly contrasting colors for this quilt, they are Art Gallery Pure Solids in Very Berry and Honeydew. I particularly like the way the blocks are slightly off set.

I used a matching 40 weight Aurifil thread for the quilting. The quilting creates little diamond shapes. I worried that it would be too much at first but I really like it now.

I was pleased to find this really pretty springy floral by Anna Maria Horner for the backing. The colors work really well and I like the juxtaposition between the floral and the bold graphic piecing. The finished quilt measures about 38″ square.
I have started on the second quilt in this exploration. The colors are totally different, the layout is a bit different, and the quilt will be bigger. So, it’s going to be awhile!
