I am so happy that I took my time and persevered through this quilt because I love the end result. Look for my tips here!

Back in April, I shared my Burst Quilt. I mentioned that it was one of two quilts that I would be making, exploring this block idea. The block was designed using my improv paper piecing method. You can read all about this approach to modern quilt design in my book. Burst was a smaller, square quilt, and the block size was larger. For this quilt, I shrank the block size a little, increased the quilt size, and played with the design a little bit so that the blocks were off set a little bit more obviously.

This finished quilt measures about 56 1/2″ x 73.” I used two shades of Art Gallery Pure Solids for this quilt. I love two color quilts but deciding on colors, when there are only two, is a lot of pressure! I settled on Crystal Pink and Aurora Red and am happy with the decision! I used a 50 weight Aurifil thread for the paper piecing and a 40 weight Aurifil thread in pink for the quilting. The quilting is a 1/2″ diagonal grid and it used a large spool plus more than half of a small spool! There’s a lot of thread in this quilt!

I love finding just the right backings for my quilts. I was lucky to come across this print by Ruby Star Society called Parlor in Balmy. The colors are perfect.

I am also so happy that my friends who own this fence moved back to town after being abroad for a few years so that I can use the fence for pictures again!
