Bibliography 2 Quilt

I’d like to share my upcoming pattern, the Bibliography Quilt. It showcases wide selvages that have been popular in recent years. Selvages serve as a kind of bibliography of your past quilts, hence the name!

You might notice that my quilt is named Bibliography 2. That’s because I made another quilt from this new pattern but it is with the quilter right now getting custom quilting. So, that one is #1 and this is #2 even though #2 is completed first!

Bibliography 2 is a baby/wall hanging size, the smallest size in the pattern. The pattern will include 3 sizes. My original Bibliography quilt is the largest size and I can’t wait to share it with you soon-ish!

It’s fun to position your selvages to get your favorite parts to show. I like to cut my selvages wide enough that I have a little bit of the fabric showing, both for memories and for added color and pattern.

Since my first quilt is getting custom quilted, I wanted to quilt this one on my domestic machine to show an alternate approach to the quilting. In this case, I chose a background fabric color, Swimming Pool by Art Gallery Fabrics, that was not highly contrasting with the selvages so that I could use a light to medium shade of Aurifil 50 to quilt edge to edge and have it blend nicely. The half inch straight line quilting gives the quilt a modern look, as does the use of negative space.

I’m very much looking forward to releasing this pattern and following it up with some virtual workshops this fall. Are you excited too?
