Spotlight Quilt

A modern transparency quilt design with a star shape in the center and radiating lines. The quilt is hung over a split rail fence.

I was inspired by the QuiltCon challenge to create a transparency design and decided to play with it on a small scale. I made this wall hanging that I am calling Spotlight.

It’s a large block design placed on point. A terracotta color and gold color blend to make a brick orange color where they overlay. I decided to quilt in a diagonal grid in a 40 weight Aurifil thread in a dusty rose color. I had to quilt particularly carefully since the thread really shows up on the white background!

I took this fun picture in my garden the other day. I thought it was a great way to capture two of my creative passions in one image–flower growing and quilt design. It’s also clear that I select similar colors for my flowers and fabrics both!

I am going to work on a pattern for this design and think I might also add it to my workshop offerings. I need to sew another sample first to confirm the yardage.
